Hey yall!

Before I go ahead with my listings tonight I just want to say THANKS for being here!!! <3

Next....there are a few already to go skirts...in the 28" and 30" sizing. I planned to have a couple of each size but the flu and current orders made that impossible :(

Next thing is after MUCH deliberation and a meeting with our financial advise I have been told I need to increase my skirt prices (If we ever want to buy a new home!)
This HURT me as I am a mummy and a mummy on a budget so I have been keeping my cost down as low as I can so my designs are affordable for everyone.
But Mr money broke it all down and told me that $4 per hour is all I am earning so I need to up my prices or look for a grown up's job :( :( :(

So I have had to regretfully put my prices up to $55 per skirt....each skirt takes me a minimum of 3hrs.
I'm sorry that I am not the quickest of sewers.... and I have a fetish for the premium fabrics!!!

So there you have it....I will continue to keep my postage as low as possible...and all skirts will continued to be posted with registration for $6.

Hope you all understand

Hey Ya Lovelies,

I have been busy working on a bunch of orders that were delayed due to me catching the worst cold I have had since forever! I guess I can't complain....I did teach my darling girls to share! :/

So ALL mama's are done....YAY!
Now just to sew up the Xmas dresses that have been cut (size 5's and 6's)
and get to the smaller sizes to be sent on Wednesday afternoon at the latest (all going to plan!)

Then i can focus on wedding sewing!
I wrote a list of things to do and it was HUGE! Eeeeeeek......and it's only 3 and a bit weeks out!

Wedding progress report...

Got my dress from Fabled and True....and it is DEVINE! And looks so cute with my old wedding shoes....BONUS!
I have to take it in an inch...I think I lost a little bit of weight while sick :/
Or I could just eat heaps of chocolate??

Hubby received his ebay vintage hounds tooth vest and vintage old man pants ;)
Just got to find the perfect shirt!!

I did manage to make a start on my decorations

Vintage CLEAN handkerchiefs now a cute bunting! I have another 18 meters of these to sew!!

And the girls dresses, accessories, napkins, fabric flower bouquet, birdcage veil, platters, candles.....
Oh lord I think I'll stop there before I give myself heart failure!!

Another little bit of excitement is I got some new ink!
I completed my wrist tattoo (3 years after starting it!)

It now has Miss Addisyns name and my wedding date and wedding bell.  Hopefully it will blend better after it heals or I'll have to go over the old tattoo
(It looks like it is going up my whole arm here but it's only on my wrist)

AND....

This Bow is on my elbow.....and yes it did hurt and took longer than my last 2 labours!!! Lucky I'm tough ;)
I think that's all I have to share with you ATM

On the mend, well and truly now.....how-ever my dreams of ever becoming an Olympic gymnast some day are dashed......how do i know?? I tried a possible drunken cartwheel in the dark Sat night (hubbys 30th) silly i know but in my defence I had glow sticks tied to me that i thought would give me super powers!!!! ;)

while layed up I was also feeling pretty loved up.... mainly due to listening to this song by Adele over and over and over and over!!!

So decided some pretty radical things are happening in Mr 1rr's and my life ATM ....
turning 30...
moving away from friends and family...Mr 1rr embarking on the steep and arduous climb up the coca cola corporate ladder!....
Me deciding that my womb was retiring...(Mr 1rr was very sad!) no harm in practising for old time sake though!...
my last surviving Nana passing....
Addy turning 2.....no more babies going to be living at 1 rr again :(
My little venture, 1rr being pretty successful.... all little ol me can handle anyways!...
and our 6th wedding anniversary.....

That also happens to fall on a Saturday again....(we got hitched on a Sat)
So I though hang it.....I want to celebrate the next faze in our lives and celebrate our friends and family because life is TOO short!

let the joint 30th birthday (secret wedding vow renewal) planing begin! Keeping in mind that I LOVE anything 40s, vintage and DIY  so that is our theme!!!.....

We told all our nearest and dearest (who we could think of and are still adding to our list ;/)
to keep the date free as we were having a partay!
got these lovely invites made up.....
(not our details of course!)

by idoityourself....madeit store found here
telling everyone our little secret!
They worked out amazing and we've have had the best comments!

next i got an amazing designer Jaye from fabled and true on the job making me my gorgeous dress...
you can find the facebook page here
and here is a shorter version of what i'm having!
All I can say is Sqeeeeeeeeeel!

then  on to the cake....
made by local maryborough (qld) facebook business sweet lip sensation... find them here
minus the cake topper that I will of course make! ;)
guess how much??
100 dollars! Yes that's right! white choc mud top with choc mud base.....Nom Nom Nom!

next was off to the local op shops and flea markets to find mis-matched crockery and cutlery (and the occasional hot cinnamon donut!)
here's is a pic of my first outing.....there's HEAPS more UN-photographed!

Love Love Love!

here's what our tables will look like
I am lucky enough to own several hand crocheted cloths that I will dye or put a coloured cloth under

here's where the ceremony will be held...
with this view!

WoW!

I think that's enough secrets for now!!!

more later ;)

don't forget our market night for 7+ mama skirts and half a dozen little girls dresses will be up for grabs this Sunday night the 30th October at 8pm Qld time!

Fat!!!

Hey Lovelies,

Have been rather fat lately......
So while shopping today I thought I should buy a home pregnancy test.....just to see if the extra few kg is due to a sneaky little bean growing in my spare tyre!
I could be sneaky pregnant......I have Very Irregular cycles....like haven't had any "visitors" for nearly 3 years!! (pregnancy and breastfeeding WOOP WOOP!!) So now I have been weaning Addi right down to only 1 feed p/d I guess my fertility may have crept back un-noticed??!

The reason I would jump to the pregnancy conclusion is because anyone who reads my status updates most nights would know I love Dessert!! Usually in the form of a whole block of chocolate...of the rocky road variety or a yummy cheesecake or my go to...apple pie or crumble (i'm not fussy) and custard!! Nom Nom!!

Surely it is not the before mentioned yumminess that could be the creators of my new spare tyre, tuck shop arms, dimply thighs and wobbly bum (Or so my kids tell me!)
I have eaten Nom Nom's almost every night for as long as I can remember....SURELY now I'm almost 30 they haven't decided to NOT be my friends anymore and make me the Michelin woman!! NO....I'd rather think I have a little sneaky bean!!

Hubby is even worried about my puffyness....or not because he likes sneaky beans.....as he does not have to grow and then give birth to them!!!

I rang my mum and she said I am probably full of wind and just have a confused fart!! Thanks Mum!!

I think I'll ponder this for a few more days (and see if my confused fart sorts itself out) before I buy a $15 test.....that could be 3 bars of rocky road!! hehe

You all do this right??!! ;)

I LOVE Vinnies!!

Morning!

Just wanted to share with you my newest little selfish sewing adventure!! hehe

I have been VERY inspired lately by vintage and upcycling this has been bough on due to my little visit to a local shop called "from little vintage"( who can be found on facebook HERE)  the other week .....
the whole shop is dedicated to vintage and local designers who use upcycled materials....SO CUTE!

(I nabbed myself this little handmade 50's dress that I am  madly in LOVE with from little vintage)

I have also been asked to do a collection for the shop...which is SUPER exciting for me!!!!! :D :D :D

Anywho...

I have been visiting local antique shops and a couple of vinnies (which I need to add that I think the vinnies workers are on to us upcyclers as I spent more $$ there than at spotlight! :/)

I had some lovely finds

Including these!!

Which I didn't buy but they are in my dreams every single night so if they are still there I think the first one needs to come home with me!

I also found this yesterday...
a linen napkin/place mat/?? thingy!

Which I thought was rather chic and unique....
and thought it would look SUPER cute as a clutch! Which I don't have....that's where the selfish sewing comes in!

This is what I came up with when the girls went to bed last night!

Outside

 Inside
Holds 6 cards

A section for your notes and or phone

Magnetic clasps
cotton lining (from an only night shirt!)
wadding which I quilted with the cotton
so it's nice and stiff but still soft <3

 All sewen together

I am rather pleased with myself!!
a true One Of A Kind!!!
I want to keep it for myself but I know my vegan...recycling aholic sister in law would love it for her birthday next month too....
we'll have to see who ends up with it ;)

Hope I have inspired you to raid your mum's or Nana's linen closets or to drop into your local charity shop!

Love
Kylie xx

1700 Giveaway!

Hey lovelies,

Did a little bit of selfish sewing today....
My girls wardrobes are filled with handmade dresses, purses, bags dolls clothes etc etc
but other than 2 plain orange cushion covers my home does NOT look like a seamstress lives there! (except the little bit's of cotton that stick to me and then drop all over the house! Lol)

So I thought I need to fix that....it may also help me get my creative juices flowing again!
Sometimes it is healthy to be selfish!

So I gathered some of my favourite fabrics that I have admired turned into little dresses for your princesses and made myself these!

They are quilted coasters......HOW CUTE!
I had such a ball making them...
and got to thinking....all us mummy's and grand mummy's need one!
I have been also racking my brains as to what to do to celebrate 1700 likers.
So I thought how about I share some with you!!!

If you would like a chance to have one of these little pretties sitting on your coffee table leave me a comment at the end of this post....

I will have 5 to giveaway...

They will be sent randomly.....you may get one that's pictured or not!! hehe...I'm going to make more they were so fun!

Here's my fave in action!

Yes that is a soup mug.......I like tea A LOT!

I'll draw the winners at the end of the week :)

Today is a new day!!!

Hey Lovelies,

After a rather large dip in my mood yesterday....I have woken with a new perspective, thanks in large part to you lovely ladies and a visit from my mum.
It has been a little challenging moving away from all my family and friends so to have her here was awesome!

Also a long walk along this beach

With the people that mean the most to me went a long way to helping me decide about the growing my business debacle.

So I have decided I like they way my business is evolving.....Yes there is a BUT! hehe
I have also decided  1 ruby road is in need of a little face lift.

Stage 1.....some nice, proper photography pics of my new spring designs...either by me (if I am feeling confident and if I ever uncover my camera from the dozen boxes I have yet to unpack) or professional??
*ANY tips on photo editing are very much appreciated!

Stage 2....Facebook makeover...finally a welcome page with links to my blog and store

Stage 3..... possibly a little sprucing of this blog to make it look a little better and more user friendly.. with      links to my bigcartel and madeit. It will make it easier for you all to navigate around here too :)

Stage 4....To get some different woven labels

Stage 5.... work some more on a charity idea I have for 1 ruby road

Stage 6.... possibly attend some markets if I feel I can handle it!

These are my goals.....I am going to try and get through all of them as best I can mentally and financially....as like most of the WAHM's out there I'm sure, I don't make much money from 1 RR...... Actually it owes me!
So if you have any advice, tips or know of people that I may be able to get to help (that don't charge like a wounded bull!!)  it would be much appreciated!

And Finally....
I will be adding my creations as they become available (ie. hot off the sewing machine needle)and will try to offer as many custom slots as I can handle.......

But you've seen the beach I live on......
I'd rather be playing there with my kids and VERY understanding husband on the weekends rather than slaving over my sewing machines!!!

Big Love to you all

Kylie  xx

Momentum

Morning Everyone :D

I have been busy cleaning 1000 tiny hand prints off my walls, windows, mirrors and doors today and got to thinking.......
1 ruby road turns 1 at the end of October and where is it heading??

(sorry in advance....for my analogy on streets!)
The small lane way which is 1 ruby road has grown more into a busy little street and has even developed a few hairpins bends along the way! (hehe)
But as most things it life it has also developed a cross road :/

I think it was under construction in April/May when I had my 1st market and then 3 weeks off....
The directions it could take are turn left back into a side ally hidden away OR
turn right onto a highway.....where there's Fast moving traffic and semi trailers!

I am stuck!

If I go left....which is where my head space is half the time......because I feel like I have not only just lost my sewjo....but my drive...and dare I say it....Eeeeeek...my passion??

If I go right....I have to jump back on that work horse (and spend far to many hours on FB)  and PUSH...PUSH...PUSH..(which is hard for me as I am a Very quiet achiever) Also I have to step things up and spend quite A Lot of $$ to brand 1 ruby road properly and make sure it has all the bells and whistles a small business requires!

I wish I wasn't a Gemini.....can never decide!

I see other businesses that were established well after 1 ruby road surging ahead....and I can't help but feel left behind sometimes....
And on the other hand I think the less I'm noticed the less likely I am to be bought into the chaos that is facebook and the less orders I have to stress about!  ;)

As I read this back It sounds rather depressing!
Maybe that's it??
With the turmoil that has been going on in the last few months here maybe I've built a nice little rut and am finding it hard to pull myself out of or maybe from time to time I  see a black dog following me?

I don't know?!

I'd LOVE to hear from other small /hobby businesses about making the decision to turn their Hobby into a thriving little WAHM business.

Sorry this post isn't funny or witty and is just ramblings really......but I have no one else to talk to :)

Yours Faithfully

Kylie xx

And a big thank you to those 1 ruby road supporters that keep coming back.....even if not to purchase but to pop in and say Hi....and give me a pat on the back or advice when I need it most! Big <3 to you!!

New BFF! hehe

Morning everyone!

I have been having a rather horrible week (so far as it's only Tuesday!) It feels like it should be a Friday though....

Miss A is still sporting a chest infection and angry nappy rash from the bought of gastro over the weekend and miss S has the vomits and wee'd the bed! :/
(as if a mummy of 4 didn't have enough to clean!)

Anyhoo...

Things are looking a little brighter this morning (even after the cleanups!)
I had a lovely visit from the Census delivery lady.
She was dropping the forms to our area and asked the usual questions they the census deliver form people do....

Q: How many Males permanently residing  at this address?
A: 1

Q: How many Females permanently residing at this address?
A:5

From here is where it could have gone either way with her response.....
It could have been the usual "Oh Poor Daddy" or the "haven't you got a tv"?? as if I've never heard that old chestnut before!

But no it went like this.....

Her: 5??
me:  Yes....that's right...5 including me...4 of those are little girls.
Her:  Are they all yours? (which I get asked quite often!)
Me:  YES! Lol
Her:  Oh, I would never have guessed....you look far to young!
I wouldn't have thought you were over 18 dear!
Me: Oh really? Get outta town!!!
(I was standing in my mismatched pj's...after I asked hubby last night to get me a matching set from the MASSIVE folding pile. I had a feeling I was going to get caught in my pj's and wanted to look my best! hair looking like I've just stood in a wind tunnel, eyebrows looking bushier than the those on the beasts from where the wild things are and probably weetbix in my teeth!)

Anyhoo....I officially LOVE Glennis (Census lady).....she is my new BFF!

I am looking forward to our next catch up next week! (when she collects my forms) ;)

Ah well back to reality!

Also just a reminder to you good folk that the Ga-Ga Gifts Giveaway is still going on with $1500 worth of prizes up for grabs!
Make sure you're in it to win it!!!!!

Welcome!!!!!

Hi there everyone!

I have been thinking of doing a blog for longer than I can remember now....and those of you who know me through my facebook ramblings would know that I'm NO computer whiz at all!!

So I have been tinkering (we'll sweating if I'm going to be honest!) for the past few days trying to set one up. I would love to say I just threw it together (like one of my little dresses!) but this was NOT the case! I have spent more hours than I dare mention just getting it to this stage! I need to give a special mention to Janet from Sookyboo Designs for helping me get this far too.

The idea for setting up a blog is so I can keep you all up to date with things...share pics/comps and even GiveAways (goody goody gumdrops!) without clogging your news feeds and without breaking any facebook rules!

As you all know I am a mummy to 4 girls aged 10,8,4 and 21months...I LOVE being a mum! My girls breathe life into my soul and I know it sounds corny but they really are my reason for living a fulfilling life!
On here I'll probably talk about them a fair bit too...I can't help it.....proud mummy syndrome I think! hehe
I'm also a breastfeeding mama so I'll probably rave a bit about my ups and downs with that too from time to time (sorry but I have no one else to talk to or ask advice from!)
I also encourage you mummies out there to leave me comments...more like conversations...I love talking to you all....I live behind my sewing machine or computer too many hours per day so you are my adult conversation! ;)

So here go's....my blog in progress! I hope it is easy to navigate....and doesn't look to (for a better word) Crappy! As I mentioned I am still learning!

Love Kylie
